RN, Ambulatory Services - Radiation Oncology

Location: Milwaukee, WI (Froedtert Hospital) – on-site, full-time (1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week). Shift: Monday–Friday, start times vary; no weekends or holidays.

About the role

The Staff RN – Ambulatory Services works collaboratively as an active member of the interprofessional team to provide therapeutic, patient- and family-centered care. The role involves systematic data collection and assessment to develop, execute, and evaluate individualized plans of care. Evidence-based practice drives clinical decisions and care coordination across settings. The RN establishes goals, considers safety and effectiveness, and delegates care in accordance with the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act. Continuous quality improvement and professional development are expected.

Responsibilities

• Perform and/or direct Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Interpret cardiac rhythms independently and perform defibrillation.
• Administer advanced lifesaving medications.
• Conduct templated (“RN-only”) visits for patient assessment, using clinical judgment to determine timing and specifics of interventions based on established protocols and clinical practice standards.
• Provide specialty patient education requiring certification or additional training (e.g., sedation, telemetry monitoring and rhythm management).
• Assist with complex procedures, including direct patient care or treatment roles.
• Perform advanced wound therapy (e.g., VACs, debridement).
• Manage central lines, including TPA administration, dressing/cap changes, and access/flushing.
• Interrogate and interpret medical devices, taking resultant action as needed.
• Administer complex infusions (e.g., concurrent infusions, hazardous medications, blood and blood products).
• Coordinate patient care, provide direct patient care, deliver patient education, perform telephone triage/eVisits, and assist with minor procedures.
• Float to other areas as needed for operational requirements.

Requirements

• Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
• Clinical experience and/or interest in the care and management of patient populations specific to the area of employment.
• At least 1 year of relevant nursing experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Specialty-Specific Requirements

• Oncology: Must obtain an oncology nursing certification or complete 10 hours of oncology-focused continuing education annually.
