6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap or Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula. This unit offers new grad nurses the opportunity to build a strong foundation in time management and develop critical thinking skills in non-ICU assignments while introducing ICU-level care. Nurses are trained to manage continuous vasoactive infusions, pulmonary artery catheters, radial arterial lines, central venous catheters, peritoneal dialysis, and Endotool for continuous Insulin drip therapy.

Responsibilities

The RN utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care, incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures.
  • Recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes.
  • Partnering with and utilizing patient/family input and goals in planning care.
  • Developing teaching strategies for patients and families and documenting education and learning in the health record.

Requirements

  • Associate’s in Nursing (Required).
  • Bachelor’s in Nursing (Required within 5 years).
  • Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license (Required).
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association (Required within 90 days).
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Required within 6 months).
  • 1-2 years of inpatient RN experience (preferred).
