About the role

The RMC Regional Transportation Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and optimizing RMC transportation operations across multiple locations, quarries, and job sites within NESL’s Eastern PA Region. This position ensures efficient transportation and timely delivery of RMC materials while adhering to safety, regulatory, and operational standards. The role also involves planning for the future success of the operation, including forecasting internal demands, adopting industry best practices, and managing relationships across NESL’s lines of business and external vendors.

This role demands a process-driven and strategic thinker, a skilled communicator, and a collaborator who can navigate the evolving landscape of transportation and logistics to drive the company's success.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Management
    • Oversee transportation operations, including scheduling, routing, dispatching, and tracking of materials.
    • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials to internal and external customers while maximizing fleet utilization and minimizing downtime.
    • Cooperate with the maintenance team to ensure timely repairs and minimize downtime.
    • Collaborate with third-party carriers to secure transportation resources and negotiate favorable terms.
  • Team Leadership
    • Lead and manage a team of transportation supervisors, dispatch, and customer service.
    • Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback to ensure a cohesive and high-performing team.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Uphold strict adherence to safety regulations, DOT requirements, and company policies.
    • Implement safety training programs and initiatives to promote a safety-first culture within the transportation team.
    • Oversee inspection schedules to ensure all vehicles are safe, compliant, and well-maintained.
  • Cost Control and Budgeting
    • Develop and manage transportation budgets, monitoring expenses, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs.
    • Identify and execute opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
    • Establish strong working relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Process Improvement
    • Identify process bottlenecks and inefficiencies in transportation operations and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
    • Implement best practices to streamline workflows and enhance overall operational effectiveness.
  • Reporting and Analysis
    • Collect and analyze transportation data to generate performance reports, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
    • Provide insights to senior management to drive strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful transportation management, preferably in the aggregate or construction materials industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations, DOT requirements, and safety standards.
  • Excellent technology aptitude and experience in logistics software and fleet management systems. Experience with system integrations preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated skills and proficiency in the following areas: strategic/enterprise point of view, ability to influence effectively at multiple levels of an organization, strong teamwork, and proven communication skills.
  • Budget management and cost control experience.
  • Process improvement and data analysis capabilities.
  • Understanding of aggregate materials, their handling, and transportation requirements.
