About the Role

Steamboat Ski & Resort's Risk and Safety team is seeking a Flex Year-Round Coordinator. This position works 10 out of 12 months per year, with full year-round benefits but 2 months of unpaid time when business levels are lower.

Responsibilities

  • Visit all operation centers to identify potential areas of exposure for guests, employees, and vendors, and collaborate with management to address them
  • Liaise with departments to establish specific safety training needs and facilitate training
  • Assist in the entry and administration of workers' compensation claims, MVR checks, accident reports, and other administrative tasks
  • Communicate with guests about the resort’s safety culture and address their safety concerns with excellent customer service
  • Participate in workers' compensation and guest incident investigations
  • Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis in partnership with departments
  • Restock and order first aid supplies
  • Assist with the coordination of safety and wellness programs
  • Work closely with legal counsel on general liability claims as needed
  • Facilitate the introduction and acceptance of new safety policies, procedures, and technologies
  • Collaborate with all departments and the safety committee
  • Assist with snowmobile training, first aid training, and other certifications as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of previous ski area operations experience (preferred)
  • Risk management and/or compliance experience (a plus)
  • Degree in business administration or industrial hygiene (helpful)
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation, SDS, and OSHA requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to be on-call as needs arise
  • Positive, solution-oriented individual with strong judgment skills; supportive of established policies
  • High levels of personal and professional integrity; ability to handle confidential information
  • Professional appearance adhering to company grooming guidelines
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to see projects through to completion
  • Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with guests, co-workers, and management consistent with Steamboat’s Service Excellence standards
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check
  • Valid driver’s license without restrictions, meeting company insurability standards

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal, non-verbal, and written)
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions
  • Advanced skiing or riding ability on various surfaces, often in inclement weather
  • Physical demands may include climbing, lifting, pushing, balancing, kneeling, sitting, and standing
  • Regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, and operate a computer and office equipment

Pay

Steamboat Springs area base hourly pay range: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour.

Schedule

Flex Year-Round position: 10 months of work per year with 2 months of unpaid time when business levels are lower.
