About the role
Column is a bank and software company built from the ground up, offering technology-forward banking solutions that simplify and fix the complex banking supply chain. We focus on simplifying the banking ecosystem by reducing the number of vendors and abstraction layers, making it safer, more transparent, and less costly.
Responsibilities
- Plug into whichever Risk program needs the most support at a given moment - third-party risk management, information security, model risk, privacy, financial, operational, etc.
- Figure out what's broken, slow, or missing in these programs.
- Learn each program from the ground up, understanding what it's protecting against, how it works in practice, and where the gaps are.
- Re-design these programs to be faster and more consistent.
- Build the tooling that makes the next version of a process possible - scripts, internal dashboards, AI-assisted review workflows, system integrations.
- Support third-party diligence and monitoring, helping assess vendor/supplier risk and turning findings into concrete remediation steps.
- Design business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) exercises that test how Column and its partners respond when things go wrong.
- Take our privacy program to the next level, ensuring privacy considerations are part of the way we diligence prospective customers from the start.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience doing something hard, such as in consulting, technical operations, software engineering, or similar roles.
- The ability to learn new domains quickly and spot inefficiencies.
- An optimization instinct, always looking for ways to automate processes.
- Technical fluency, comfortable in the terminal, writing or modifying Python, Go, Apps Script code, querying databases with SQL, working with APIs, and reasoning about systems.
- Strong written communication skills, able to articulate responses to alerts, reviews, and findings clearly and comprehensively.
- Able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams, surfacing tradeoffs early, and knowing when to escalate issues.
Qualifications
- Experience in risk management, preferably in a tech or fintech context.
- Understanding of banking regulations and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and tools.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Apps Script, SQL, and API usage.

Pay
The annual US base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $150,000, exclusive of equity compensation and benefits. This salary range may span several career levels at Column, and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s skill sets, experience, licensure and certifications, location, and other business and organizational needs.
Schedule
This role is in-person based out of our San Francisco Presidio office 3-4 days a week.
