About the role

Capital One is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Risk Manager to join the Business Continuity and Resilience Risk Management (BCRM) team within the Operational Risk Management (ORM) second line of defense. BCRM is responsible for independent governance and oversight of Capital One’s business continuity practices, enabling the company to respond to and recover from business disruptions.

As a Risk Manager, you will provide risk advice and effective challenge to the first line of defense in its identification, management, control, and mitigation of business continuity risks, bringing specialized expertise to support the strategic oversight of the Global Payment Network (GPN). You will work with talented associates to ensure our businesses effectively manage overall operational risk, maintaining a sustainable and holistic operational risk profile to deliver superior products while protecting customers.

Responsibilities

  • Support risk advising for Capital One's Global Payment Network (GPN) and serve as a thought leader on enhancing the second-line framework to oversee operational resilience.
  • Analyze data and influence others to proactively identify risks and trends on an ongoing basis.
  • Uncover new areas of risk related to various lines of business and develop a strong understanding of the data ecosystem.
  • Foster collaboration with other risk teams and partner groups to create an integrated risk experience (e.g., Compliance, Third-Party Risk Management, Country Risk, Technology Risk Management).
  • Execute challenge activities to elevate areas of suspected risk and escalate appropriately to Operational Risk Management leadership.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and effective challenge during risk assessments (Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Process Level Assessments, New Products).
  • Consult on Issue/Event analysis or changes in resilience conditions to support first-line risk response and inform senior leaders of aggregate exposure to operational disruptions.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and influencing skills across various levels of the organization.
  • Balance multiple priorities to drive business value while managing tasks related to risk management initiatives.
  • Stay current on effective operational resilience strategies and business continuity requirements.
  • Support interactions with Internal Audit and Regulatory agencies, as applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in risk analysis specific to global or domestic Big Four payment networks.
  • At least 4 years of experience in risk, compliance, or audit.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with internal business customers.
  • At least 1 year of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or technology resilience.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • 5+ years of experience in risk, compliance, or audit.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk analysis specific to global or domestic Big Four payment networks.
  • 3+ years of project management experience leading cross-functional programs in risk.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leveraging data analysis tools to interpret large, complex datasets for risk identification and reporting.
  • Certification in risk management, audit, or business continuity management (e.g., CBCP, CRMA, CIA, CISA, CRISC).

Pay

The annual salary ranges for this role by location are as follows:

  • Chicago, IL: $138,100 - $157,700
  • McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400
  • New York, NY: $165,700 - $189,200
  • Richmond, VA: $138,100 - $157,700

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI).
