About the role

We are seeking a Risk Management Consultant to join our Energy and Resources team. This role is a remote / hybrid position, with the work requiring travel to client sites up to 10% of the year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to define and implement practical risk management strategies aligned with project objectives and scope.
  • Review and apply client risk management programs, adapting approaches to suit project phase, complexity, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and facilitate structured risk workshops (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, PHA, PFMA, FMEA, MAA, constructability and decision sessions) in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Lead multidisciplinary discussions to identify risks, challenge assumptions, and drive alignment on key technical and execution uncertainties.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate risk registers and related outputs that provide clear, decision-ready insights to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Support project teams in evaluating and prioritizing risks and identifying effective mitigation measures using principles such as hierarchy of controls and prevention through design (PtD).
  • Review technical documentation and coordinate with discipline leads to develop a working understanding of project systems, interfaces, and execution strategies.
  • Contribute to project reviews, studies, and deliverables by providing risk-informed perspectives across engineering, construction, and operational considerations.
  • Support ongoing risk monitoring and reporting, including periodic project risk updates and stakeholder communications.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal teams, ensuring open, practical, and transparent communication of risk-related topics.
  • Assist with proposal development and scope definition for risk management and related technical services.
  • Support interpretation of applicable regulations, standards, and industry practices as they relate to project risk and safety.
  • Cook up with third-party specialists as required and support integration of their outputs into project deliverables.
  • Maintain organized project records and documentation in accordance with project and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, with the ability to lead structured discussions across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare for, facilitate, and document risk workshops using digital tools in both in-person and virtual settings.
  • Strong working knowledge of qualitative risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZOP, PHA, PFMA, FMEA, MAA).
  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical systems and translate information into clear, practical insights.
  • Strong health, safety, environmental, and community (HSEC) awareness, with a practical approach to hazard identification and risk reduction.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry regulations and standards (e.g., MSHA) is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing technical deliverables and collaborating with engineering disciplines across project phases.
  • Experience in heavy industry, energy, natural resources, or infrastructure sectors is preferred.
  • Field or site experience in industrial or construction environments (e.g., mining, processing, or infrastructure projects) is highly valued.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including drawings, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard project documentation tools.

Skills

  • Quantitative risk analysis methods (e.g., Monte Carlo simulation, Event Tree / Fault Tree analysis, LOPA).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMI-RMP, CMSP, Functional Safety certifications).
  • Site auditing, field inspection, or coaching experience in industrial or construction environments.
  • Specialized expertise in areas such as process safety, industrial safety, human factors, or dam safety.
  • Experience with risk visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
  • Familiarity with risk and process safety software (e.g., PHA-Pro or equivalent).
