About the Opportunity

The Risk Investigations Specialist plays a critical role in identifying and mitigating offline risks through detailed investigations and data analysis. This position contributes by uncovering abuse and criminal activities, providing actionable insights, and collaborating with product and engineering teams to enhance safety measures, thus supporting the organization's overall risk mitigation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of offline risk factors, including human trafficking and organized crime, within operational contexts
  • Utilize internal data, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and third-party intelligence to identify undiscovered risks
  • Analyze large datasets to develop strategies for preventing and disrupting criminal activities
  • Communicate complex findings clearly to management and product teams to inform key business decisions
  • Collaborate with trust product and engineering teams to design and implement robust risk mitigation strategies
  • Lead complex investigations involving multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in project ideation and global collaboration initiatives to address systemic offline risks
  • Develop repeatable investigative frameworks aligned with established trust and safety practices
  • Contribute to the formulation of new enforcement policies addressing emerging threats
  • Monitor risk trends during onboarding and post-onboarding stages, recommending targeted safety improvements
  • Help refine automated monitoring and alerting systems to detect abnormal customer behavioral patterns

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of professional investigative experience (preferably within the technology or travel sectors)
  • Background in trust & safety, fraud detection, or risk management on user-centric platforms
  • Skilled in conducting detailed investigations and analyzing complex technical and behavioral signals
  • Intermediate proficiency in SQL, with the active ability to write, edit, and optimize queries
  • Experience using data analysis tools to drive operational risk management decisions
  • Proven ability to analyze and mitigate high-impact threats using analytical or statistical methods
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects across multiple locations and global time zones
  • Strong communication, presentation, and team-oriented collaboration skills
  • Availability to work West Coast hours, with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays
  • Preferred: Deep expertise in organized crime topics such as human trafficking or drug trafficking preferred
  • Prior experience in specifically monitoring and mitigating offline safety risks is a strong plus
  • Strong understanding of the criminal use of technology and digital platforms preferred
  • Experience preparing intelligence reports on geopolitical risks and violent actor behaviors preferred

Pay Range and Compensation Package

Base salary range: $100,000 to $110,000 USD per year (exact compensation will be determined based on knowledge, skills, and experience)
