Position Overview
The Freshman Support Specialist will provide targeted support to a caseload of high-risk 9th grade students, focusing on personalized, data-driven support related to attendance, behavior, and academics. This role serves as a liaison between students, families, and school staff to ensure the success of students during their transition to high school and preparation for the following years.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one meetings and small group sessions to support academic, behavioral, and emotional development.
- Utilize data from Grade 8 and 9th-grade assessments to create personalized support plans.
- Regularly track and monitor student progress using data on attendance, behavior, and academics to ensure students remain on track for success.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between students, their families, and school staff, addressing concerns, providing updates, and connecting families to resources.
- Meet with and present to feeder middle schools to ensure smooth transitions for students entering 9th grade.
- Aid in the planning and execution of the Summer Bridge Program to support incoming 9th grade students.
- Aid in the creation of student teams to foster collaboration, support, and community within the 9th grade class.
- Attend data team meetings to discuss student progress and contribute to school-wide initiatives focused on student success.
- Foster positive relationships with students, families, and staff to create a supportive and collaborative school environment.
- Lead parent outreach efforts, including sharing resources and providing ongoing communication to help families stay engaged in their child's education.
- Organize and implement student recognition activities, including mid-year and end-of-year celebrations for students' achievements.
- Work closely with 9th-grade staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support and academic success.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's degree required
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with students and families, fostering positive relationships and ensuring successful support.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential.
- 2+ years working with high school students in a similar capacity.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high-stress situations.
