About the role

The Right of Way Clerk plays a crucial role in the Rights, Permits & Public Works Team, focusing on document preparation and processing for the City of Boston, including permit applications, municipal petitions, plan orders, grants of location forms, and traffic forms. Additionally, they assist with joint owned billing notifications and public hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process permit applications, municipal petitions, plan orders, grants of location forms, and traffic forms for the City of Boston.
  • Prepare, review, process, and expedite notifications and records pertaining to joint owned billing with the telephone company.
  • Aid the Right of Way Agent with work order evaluations, plan orders, permit applications, document preparation, and public hearings.

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use system applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Maximo, etc.
  • Effective in working in a team environment or independently.
  • Ability to locate and interpret company records and public records like engineering plans, municipal assessment records, Registry of Deeds land records, and State Highway layouts.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of two college-level courses: Real Estate Fundamentals and Oral Communications (each course must be three semester hours).
  • Paralegal Certificate or Associate’s Degree in Business, Legal Studies, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Must obtain Notary Public stamp within three months of employment.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years in Right of Way, permitting, and/or corporate real estate field.
  • Experience and knowledge of permitting in the City of Boston preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid drivers' license and clean driving record required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be available to work emergency preparedness assignments as required.
  • HYBRID SCHEDULE: Employees are expected to work at least three days in the office, including Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with the third day determined by the employee and supervisor based on department needs. This applies to roles approved for remote work and is subject to change based on managerial discretion and work performance.

  • Annual salary: $98,842.00.
