About the role
Join the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium team and play a vital role in keeping the excitement safe, smooth, and unforgettable. As a Rides Maintenance Technician, you’ll help ensure the reliability and safety of our amusement rides, water attractions, and facilities—supporting the experiences that bring joy to thousands of guests every day.
Responsibilities
- Performs general and preventative maintenance and inspections on all amusement rides, water rides and features, and attractions at Columbus Zoological Park Association properties.
- Implements preventative maintenance programs based on the manufacturer’s requirements and best practices.
- Performs daily ride, slide, and pool inspections and any necessary repairs.
- Utilizes technology to complete routine maintenance schedules.
- Ensures manufacturers’ maintenance and repair bulletins are completed and recorded.
- Records all maintenance, inspections, and repair activity in the appropriate equipment log.
Compliance & Safety
- Understands the “Laws and Rules Governing Amusement Rides in Ohio.”
- Reads and understands operation and maintenance manuals.
- Assures safety through training, SOP compliance, and proper equipment maintenance.
- May work with hazardous chemicals including hydrochloric acid and liquid chlorine.
Operations & Support
- Operates motorized vehicles and specialized equipment.
- Provides support for special events like Wildlights and Zoofari.
- Maintains monitoring and reporting of potential problems in buildings and attractions.
- Monitors and reports potential problems in buildings and attractions.
- Participates in snow removal and environmental maintenance.
- May assist other Facilities personnel and participate in cross-training.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of six months’ maintenance experience preferred.
- Technical school (2-year degree) in related field preferred.
- Electrical experience and/or certifications highly preferred.
Requirements
- CPR and first aid training within the first year.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate standard shift vehicles.
- Negative TB screening and background check required.
- Adherence to drug-free workplace policy.
