About the Role
ZooTampa is seeking part-time seasonal Rides and Attractions Representatives to provide outstanding guest service and assist the operations department in contributing to the mission of the Zoo. This position involves safely and efficiently operating mechanical rides and attractions, ensuring safety guidelines are communicated and followed, and providing information to guests. This is a seasonal part-time role with the potential to last until January 2, 2027, offering a great opportunity to help bring ZooTampa’s exciting seasonal event to life.
Maximum scheduled hours are 28 per week. Minimum availability is three days per week including holidays and weekends with a variable schedule.
Responsibilities
- Operate rides and interactive areas safely and attentively in accordance with safety protocols established by the State of Florida and ZooTampa.
- Provide guests with exceptional service, including assisting with boarding and exiting attractions.
- Communicate and enforce ride safety policies professionally and diplomatically.
- Fully understand and follow operating and safety procedures for the Rides Department, consistently communicating designated safety instructions to guests.
- Assist guests with loading and unloading rides, ensuring safety restraints are secure.
- Respond promptly to potential emergency situations, including assisting with ride evacuations, which may require climbing.
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety checks, ride downtime, and rider counts while managing ride queues efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical rides, attractions, and surrounding areas, including routine cleaning and basic upkeep of equipment.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by promoting cooperation, collaboration, and mutual respect.
- Enhance the overall guest experience by creating a fun and safe environment for visitors.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school or equivalency diploma preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with all departments.
- Ability to complete projects in a reasonable time frame and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to follow specific instructions and multi-task while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in alignment with AZA standards, relevant laws, safety standards, and animal welfare guidelines.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical of west central Florida (heat, rain, or cold) and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to animal dander, dust, fumes, odor, loud noises, motion, and vibrations.
- Must be comfortable climbing amusement ride catwalks up to a height of 30 feet.
- Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written/verbal instructions.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to safely operate rides and handle tools/equipment.
- Must possess sufficient cognitive ability, auditory and visual acuity, and communication skills to perform essential duties.
- Willingness to work varied and long shifts, including holidays, nights, weekends, and unexpected shifts.
- Ability to work in various physical positions, including sitting, bending, reaching, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry 20 lbs. or more.
- Ability to navigate paved as well as rough or uneven pathways.
