Revenue Accounting Manager

About the role

This full-time, hybrid (3 days in office) position is located in Northbrook, IL. The Revenue Accounting Manager ensures the integrity of the Company's revenue accounting by providing accounting expertise and driving process and control improvements. The role reports to the Revenue Accounting Senior Manager and supports all accounting policy responsibilities, including documentation and oversight of UL's revenue accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP.

This position partners with UL Solutions’ business operations and requires an understanding of UL's diverse revenue types, governing contracts, operational processes for orders, fulfillment, and invoicing. It involves collaboration with corporate accounting, business leads, the legal team, and management.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the global revenue accounting lead, partnering with business teams to improve operational processes and integrity.
• Manage direct reports by establishing performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback, and ensuring policy compliance.
• Ensure revenue recognition policies and procedures conform with ASC 606, U.S. GAAP, and company policies, including oversight of deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, accounts receivable, and allowance for doubtful accounts.
• Maintain governance over the Order-to-Revenue processes.
• Manage the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, ensuring accurate and timely results.
• Review customer contracts for revenue recognition implications, work with Sales teams to standardize contracts, and advise on non-standard contract structures.
• Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley section 404 requirements related to revenue recognition, including ownership of narratives and key controls.
• Provide revenue recognition guidance and training to cross-functional teams, including sales, legal, and accounting/finance.
• Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews.

Requirements

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of directly related experience, including a minimum of 3 years in public accounting (preferably with a Big 4 firm).
• Active US CPA certification.
• Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience in software and professional services industries is a plus.
• Self-motivated individual adaptable to changing environments.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this position is $110,000–$130,000, based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical location. This role is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 2% of the base salary.
