Retail Sales Associate (Part-time, Onsite)

About the role

The Sales Associate will report to the Gift Shop's Manager & Buyer, and work closely with other retail staff. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills as well as self-motivation, basic math, and careful attention to detail. The MASS MoCA gift shop is a key part of the visitor services experience and operates as a source of information to visitors beyond the range of products offered.

Responsibilities

• Cheerfully greeting customers and providing suggestions and product information.
• Cleaning store fixtures and maintaining attractive merchandise displays.
• Opening and closing the store and operating the POS system and cash drawer.
• Organizing overstock and replenishing store displays as needed.
• Organizing and affixing price tags to new incoming shipments of products.
• Taking initiative to learn about the history of MASS MoCA and the current and past exhibitions and performances in order to answer customer questions.

Requirements

• Candidates must be friendly, patient, computer-savvy, a self-starter and confident to work independently when needed.
• Knowledge of the North Adams area and customer service experience are preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to wear PPE as necessary.

About MASS MoCA

MASMoCA is a vibrant non-collecting art museum with approximately 300,000 square feet of exhibition space dedicated to visual art and projects by contemporary artists. Formerly a 19th century factory, these exhibition spaces are unconventional, vast, soaring galleries spanning multiple buildings. Half of that space is dedicated to rotating 10–16 month exhibitions of which we present 4 to 6 large-scale exhibitions per year, along with smaller projects and commissions.
