About the role

The Retail Project Manager leads retail construction and facilities programs across the portfolio. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality store environments, managing end-to-end construction operations, and building a long-term Facilities strategy that optimizes performance, reduces costs, and enhances store reliability. The Retail Project Manager drives continuous improvement, ensures on-time/on-budget delivery, and partners closely with Real Estate, Design, Operations, and Facilities teams to support the company’s retail growth, operational excellence, and brand integrity.

Responsibilities

Construction Project Leadership

  • Oversees the planning, execution, and delivery of projects—ensuring timelines, budgets, scope, and resources are effectively managed while coordinating cross-functional teams and communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Lead all phases of construction—including estimating, bidding, scheduling, contract negotiation, value engineering, and project closeout—for new store builds and remodels.
  • Develop conceptual budgets and schedules for Real Estate feasibility assessments. Refine budgets and schedules for Real Estate committee approvals.
  • Review landlord work letters and coordinate landlord communication for site-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing on sourcing and managing vendors, materials, and FOIC/FOIO components.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment with Real Estate, Design, Visual Merchandising, Operations, and Facilities to ensure project success.
  • Build strong relationships with Region leadership and field teams to communicate project updates and drive store milestones.
  • Manage project schedules aligned to the Store Development roadmap.
  • Oversee jobsite progress through field visits, schedule reviews, and quality audits to ensure timely and accurate execution.
  • Administer construction budgets, including forecasting and change order management.
  • Review drawings at each milestone for constructability and accuracy; work with architects to resolve issues.
  • Facilitate swift resolution of design and construction conflicts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure seamless store turnover to Retail Operations, including system orientation and walkthroughs.
  • Maintain involvement during the first 30 days post-opening to validate system performance and support warranty issue resolution.
  • Partner and support local Facilities teams in identifying and executing warranty repairs and general maintenance.
  • Drive timely closeout, project documentation, and tenant allowance recovery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with General Contractors and vendors to meet cost, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Facilities Strategy & Program Leadership

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for Retail Facilities operations, ensuring stores remain safe, functional, and aligned with brand standards.
  • Drive and support Facilities maintenance programs that reduce ticket resolution time, improve service levels, and lower operating costs.
  • Partner with Facility Managers to streamline workflows, optimize vendor performance, and ensure rapid response to store needs.
  • Introduce new technologies, systems, and tools that enhance Facilities efficiency and visibility.
  • Develop and maintain Facilities dashboards, reporting, and KPIs to proactively monitor performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze Facilities industry trends and best practices to strengthen programs and inform long-term planning.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to coordinate Facilities initiatives with ongoing construction and remodel activity.

Strategy, Prototyping & Process Improvement

  • Partner with Store Design on prototype development, design evolutions, and field-driven feedback loops.
  • Conduct biannual reviews of RFIs and change orders to identify trends and implement design and construction improvements.
  • Identify and implement value-engineering opportunities that maintain brand integrity while reducing costs.
  • Support Design with permitting coordination and design-related field insights.

Key Interfaces

  • General Contractors: Bid management, contract administration, progress oversight, cost compliance, and resolution of site issues.
  • Landlords & Regulatory Agencies: Manage reviews, approvals, and issues related to construction and project completion.
  • Creative Services & Design: Support prototype development, estimating, and value engineering.
  • Retail Operations & Loss Prevention: Ensure operational readiness and alignment on store openings.
  • Purchasing/Sourcing: Provide detailed material takeoffs and support sourcing of non-standard items.
  • Regional Leadership: Communicate weekly progress, align on program objectives, and support new store and remodel pipeline.
  • Facility Managers: Provide ongoing support, strategic direction, and issue resolution across field Facilities teams.

Requirements

  • Expertise in retail construction, interior buildouts, and multi-site project delivery.
  • Strong understanding of Facilities Management operations and emerging industry technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across a decentralized environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schedules, and cost reports.
  • Strong understanding of construction budgeting and estimating.
  • Proficiency in construction and project management software (Procore and Smartsheet preferred).
  • Expertise in the Microsoft Office suite: PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, documentation, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
  • 7–10+ years of construction project leadership experience in a retail or multi-site environment.
  • Fluency reading and interpreting construction documents.
  • Experience overseeing Facilities programs and implementing Facilities strategies.
  • Prior experience as an owner’s representative strongly preferred.
