Full-time, day shift position at Trinity Health Pharmacy - Schoolcraft Campus, located inside the Livonia Medical Center on Schoolcraft Campus.

About the Role

Under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist and Pharmacy Department leadership, provides daily pharmaceutical supportive services according to established procedures and in compliance with pharmacy laws, regulatory agencies, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Responds to routine and emergency requests promptly and efficiently, requiring a high degree of independent judgment. Participates in departmental education activities, competency assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives while promoting customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets physician's medication orders; assists with filling, processing, and dispensing medications.
  • Re-packages and labels medication, including bulk supplies, with final check performed by a pharmacist.
  • Maintains cleanliness and aseptic technique while compounding intravenous admixtures (IVPBs, large volume parenterals, total parenteral nutrition) following USP 797/USP 800 Guidelines.
  • Delivers controlled substances and other medications to nursing units' automated medication dispensing cabinets (ADC).
  • Delivers medication, IV solutions, and necessary forms to patient care areas on a scheduled basis.
  • Prepares, loads, and unloads medication into ADCs with appropriate bar code scanning.
  • Fills inventory needs for nursing unit ADCs, non-cabinet stock, and unit dose drawers according to computerized patient profiles.
  • Supports drug inventory processes, including rotation and restocking of dispensing areas.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
  • Answers phones, directs calls, and escalates emergencies to pharmacists as needed.
  • Completes nursing unit inspections as assigned.
  • Restocks crash cart trays, OCMCA boxes, and other emergency supplies in a timely manner; reports discrepancies.
  • Fills controlled substance orders and reconciles discrepancies daily; reports unusual activity for potential drug diversion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician educational program and/or associate's degree preferred.
  • Previous pharmacy experience; hospital-based experience preferred. Formal Pharmacy Technician program experiential education may substitute for work experience.
  • Licensure as a pharmacy technician in the State of Michigan is required.
  • Proven competency in working aseptically in laminar flow hoods (horizontal or vertical) using aseptic technique.
