Retail Lead

Reports to: Store Manager • Non-Exempt • Retail Department • Portage, Michigan

About the role

The Retail Lead supports the daily operations of the dispensary by guiding team performance, ensuring excellent customer service, and maintaining compliance and organization throughout the sales floor. This role bridges the gap between team members and store management and plays a key role in delivering a positive, educational, and compliant customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Open and close the store in accordance with company policy.
• Oversee daily dispensary floor operations and ensure staff are supported and efficient.
• Verify allotments, guide patients through product selection, and deliver exceptional service.
• Mentor and train Budtenders and delegate tasks as needed.
• Ensure product displays are clean, properly labeled, rotated, and fully stocked.
• Handle customer concerns, assist with de-escalation, and support team performance.
• Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and assist with daily cash reconciliation.
• Maintain a clean, compliant, and professional retail environment.
• Support management with team communication, scheduling, and daily feedback.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Supervise Budtenders and retail team members during scheduled shifts.
• Provide real-time coaching and support training initiatives.

Requirements

• 1+ year of customer service or cannabis retail experience required.
• 1+ year of leadership experience preferred.
• Strong communication, conflict resolution, and team-building skills.
• Working knowledge of cannabis products, POS systems, and customer service best practices.
• Ability to stand for extended periods (3+ hours) and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Reliable transportation and a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Facility Agent Card (or equivalent license) if required by state regulations.

Education and Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• No specific certifications required.

Physical Requirements

• Stand, walk, lift, and bend throughout scheduled shifts.
• Lift and move merchandise up to 50 pounds.
• Operate computers, POS systems, scanners, and standard retail equipment.

Work Environment

• Work is performed in a licensed retail dispensary environment.
• Exposure to varying noise levels, customer interaction, and cannabis-related odors.
• PPE may be required depending on task or department support.

Pay

$17.00 - $18.00 per hour
