Retail General Manager

The General Manager at Office Depot OfficeMax is responsible for growing total sales and services within the location, driving the overall customer experience, and fostering a sales service culture. This role includes accountability for sales performance, operational goals, and community relationships while developing store strategies to increase conversion rates and customer traffic. The General Manager leads associate training, talent development, and succession planning, providing coaching and feedback to create a customer-first environment. Responsibilities also include hiring, merchandising, operations, and resolving associate and customer concerns while maintaining company standards. This role actively engages with the local community through in-store events to build client relationships and brand loyalty.

Responsibilities

• Achieve sales, services, operations profit, and customer/community relationship goals.
• Drive the overall customer experience and sales service culture within the store.
• Manage sales performance and identify sales opportunities.
• Develop and execute store strategies and tactics to meet sales and operational goals.
• Increase conversion rates and drive customer traffic into stores.
• Focus on key business initiatives to maximize sales and profitability.
• Own associate training, development, talent assessment, and succession planning.
• Provide constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling to associates.
• Lead, motivate, and inspire associates to create a customer-first environment.
• Engage with the local community and host in-store events with small and medium businesses (SMB) to build client relationships and improve retention.
• Oversee hiring, merchandising, operations, and execution of store and company standards.
• Resolve associate and customer relations concerns in a timely manner.
• Manage performance of all associates and foster a positive, inclusive workplace.
• Act as a Change Champion by initiating and supporting company changes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field preferred.
• 2–4 years of management experience or equivalent skills gained through an internal development program.
• Strong business acumen and sound judgment with proven people-management abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead, coach, and positively influence at all levels.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills in a fast-changing environment.
• Proficient with computers, job-related technology, and POS systems.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $50,500/year to $60,000/year, with adjustments made to comply with all state and local minimum wage laws. Eligible associates may participate in an incentive program, paid according to the Incentive Plan terms and conditions.
