Retail General Manager
About the role
The General Manager at Office Depot OfficeMax is responsible for growing total sales and services within the location, driving the overall customer experience, and fostering a sales service culture. This role involves managing sales performance, identifying sales opportunities, and developing store strategies to achieve sales results and operational goals. The General Manager will focus on increasing conversion rates, driving customer traffic, and ensuring maximum sales and profitability through key business initiatives.
This position includes ownership of associate training and development, talent assessment, and succession planning. The General Manager provides coaching, constructive feedback, and leads a team to create a customer-first environment. They are actively engaged with the local community, hosting in-store events with small and medium businesses (SMB) to build client relationships, improve customer retention, and increase brand awareness and loyalty.
Additional responsibilities include hiring, merchandising, operations, execution of store and company standards, resolving associate and customer concerns, and performance management. The General Manager fosters a positive and inclusive workplace and acts as a Change Champion by initiating and supporting company changes.
Responsibilities

- Lead, motivate, and inspire associates to create a customer-first environment.
- Engage with the local community and host in-store events with SMBs to build client relationships and improve retention.
- Oversee hiring, merchandising, operations, and execution of store and company standards.
- Resolve associate and customer relations concerns in a timely manner.
- Manage performance of all associates and foster a positive, inclusive workplace.
- Act as a Change Champion by initiating and supporting company changes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of management experience or equivalent skills gained through an internal development program.
- Strong business acumen and sound judgment with proven people-management abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead, coach, and positively influence at all levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills in a fast-changing, often ambiguous environment.
- Proficient with computers, job-related technology, and POS systems.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $50,500/year to $71,800/year. All state and local minimum wage requirements will be complied with, which may result in an adjustment to the salary range.
