Retail General Manager

About the role

The General Manager at Office Depot OfficeMax is responsible for growing total sales and services within the location, driving the overall customer experience, and fostering a sales service culture. This role owns associate training, talent development, and succession planning while leading strategies to achieve sales results, operational goals, and community relationships. The General Manager ensures maximum sales and profitability, resolves associate and customer concerns, and partners with business stakeholders. They also champion company changes and promote a positive, inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

• Achieve sales, services, operations, and profit results for the location.
• Develop and execute store strategies and tactics to increase conversion rates and customer traffic.
• Lead, motivate, and inspire associates to create a customer-first environment.
• Train, develop, and assess talent, providing coaching and constructive feedback.
• Manage performance, resolve associate and customer relations concerns, and foster a positive workplace.
• Engage with the local community and host in-store events to build client relationships and brand loyalty.
• Oversee hiring, merchandising, operations, and adherence to store and company standards.
• Act as a Change Champion, supporting and initiating company-wide changes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Retail Management, or related field preferred.
• 2–4 years of management experience or equivalent skills from an internal development program.
• Strong business acumen, sound judgment, and proven people-management abilities.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach and influence at all levels.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong planning, prioritization, and execution skills in a fast-changing environment.
• Proficiency with computers, job-related technology, and POS systems.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $50,500/year to $60,000/year, with adjustments to comply with all state and local minimum wage laws. Eligible employees may participate in an incentive program.
