RETAIL COMPUTER TECHNICIAN

About the role

Micro Center is the nation’s leading computer and electronic device big-box retailer, offering an industry-leading selection of 40,000+ premier computer products and a knowledgeable staff. We are seeking self-motivated, results-driven Retail Computer Technicians with a starting base pay of $15/hour, productivity incentives increasing hourly rates up to $18–$35, plus SPIFFs. You’ll split your time between the Service Counter—consulting with customers and earning uncapped commissions—and the repair shop, diagnosing and fixing a variety of devices while maintaining clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person consultations and troubleshooting at the service counter for computers, related equipment, and other retail products.
• Recommend service solutions such as data backups, anti-virus software, extended warranties, and support subscriptions.
• Diagnose and document hardware failures or software issues on desktops, laptops, mobile phones, TVs, monitors, and other electronic devices.
• Assemble custom computers sold by our build-your-own (BYO) sales team.
• Utilize technical manuals and support resources, maintain relevant certifications, and stay updated on retail products and current technologies.
• Maintain a cash till, handle customer transactions, and ensure a clean work area with accurate inventory tracking.
• Communicate timely, complete, and accurate service updates to customers via face-to-face, telephone, text, and email.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent; one year of related computer service, repair, or technical customer service experience strongly preferred.
• CompTIA A+ certification or Apple ACMT and ACiT certifications, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. *Apple certifications highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask and adjust priorities.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods.

Shifts include hours before and after store operating hours and may involve mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
