RESTORATION TECHNICIAN - ENVIRONMENTAL
EMH&T is seeking a Restoration Technician to join our team based in Columbus, OH.
About the role
The Restoration Technician works under the direction of the Restoration Crew Chief on stream and wetland mitigation projects, wetland basin plantings, and upland buffer enhancement and establishment projects. This position is full-time, with an expected 40 hours per week, weather permitting.
Much of the work will involve planting trees and shrubs, applying herbicide to control invasive species, wetland seeding, and conservation easement sign installation. The work is primarily in central Ohio. The team travels together to the job site, completes the work, and returns to the office the same day. Occasional overnight travel may be required, dependent upon project location and work schedule, and will be communicated in advance.
All employees are responsible for actively supporting the company’s safety program, including monitoring and enforcing safe working practices and safety rules.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with a start time of 8:00 AM. Start times may vary depending on the time of year and weather, and will be communicated by the Crew Chief.
Responsibilities
- Plant trees, shrubs, and herbaceous material
- Apply herbicide to control invasive species
- Perform wetland seeding
- Install conservation easement signs
- Operate and maintain hand tools and small power tools
- Pull heavy landscaping sleds weighing up to 70 lbs
- Work in all weather conditions and physically demanding environments
- Collaborate with team members in a positive manner
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Install plant materials using hand tools or machinery
- Walk for extended periods over rough terrain, ditches, steep stream banks, and uneven ground
- Carry up to 50 lbs of equipment/materials while navigating uneven terrain
- Perform intermittent squatting, leaning, twisting, and bending
- Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate for the task
Requirements
- Ability to work independently once provided sufficient direction
- Strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail
- Ability to learn and apply best practices for planting and restoration work
- Good driving record and reliable transportation to work
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
- Subject to quarterly random drug testing
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (EMH&T does not sponsor work visas)
