About the Role
The Restaurant Server provides an exceptional dining experience to guests by offering courteous and efficient service, taking orders, serving food and beverages, and creating a welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Welcome guests upon arrival, escort them to their tables, and provide menus.
- Assist with seating arrangements and accommodate special requests or preferences.
- Listen attentively to guests' food and beverage orders, noting any special instructions or dietary restrictions.
- Accurately input orders into the restaurant's ordering system.
- Serve food and drinks promptly and accurately to guests' tables, ensuring proper presentation.
- Verify that orders match customers' requests.
- Possess thorough knowledge of the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and specials.
- Offer recommendations to guests based on their preferences and answer any questions.
- Suggest appetizers, side dishes, desserts, and beverages to enhance the guest's dining experience and increase sales.
- Promote specials or featured items.
- Maintain clean and properly set tables with utensils, glassware, and condiments.
- Clear empty dishes and reset tables efficiently for new guests.
- Engage with guests in a friendly and attentive manner, addressing concerns and ensuring satisfaction.
- Present bills, handle payment transactions accurately, and process credit card transactions.
- Return change, receipts, or credit card slips promptly.
- Collaborate with kitchen staff, bussers, and other servers to ensure smooth coordination of orders and efficient service flow.
- Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards, maintaining cleanliness in the dining area.
- Follow proper hygiene practices.
- Participate in and assist with special events, parties, and catering functions as required.
Requirements
- High school education or related experience.
- Alcohol awareness certification and familiarity with hospitality industry practices preferred.
- Ability to provide friendly guest service.
- Understanding of proper ordering and food handling techniques, as well as state and local serving guidelines.
- Ability to process guest checks and collect payments in compliance with cash handling, credit card transactions, room charge processing, and accounting policies.
Working Conditions & Physical Effort
- Extended standing, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Work performed in an interior hotel environment with equipment and machines.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dirt, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Exposure to hazards or physical risks requires following basic safety precautions and using applicable protective equipment.
