About the role
The Respite Associate provides occasional care for clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The primary responsibilities include supervising activities, providing companionship, and coordinating care with caregivers.
Responsibilities
- Engage clients with recreational activities in the home or community setting, such as arts & crafts, games, music, computer, socialization, reading, and other activities based on client choice.
- Support clients with basic living skills including toileting, hygiene care, food prep, feeding assistance, dressing, chores, and other activities that are fundamental to daily living.
- Adhere to the rules of the respite program, follow agency policies and procedures, and respect family's home rules.
- Complete and submit timely and accurate billing-related data, maintain confidentiality of client data in adherence with HIPAA requirements, and provide occasional coverage for the Kaleidoscope Adult Community program.
- Implement behavior management strategies and respond to physically aggressive behavior as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in a care-taking role for persons with disabilities preferred.
- Willingness to work evening and weekend shifts, with some daytime hours based on client and program need.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- Effective communication skills and ability to interact respectfully and sensitively with clients, client’s family, and ESNorCal staff.
- Committed to ESNorCal values, including resilience and inclusion.
- Ability to work with up to three clients during a single session.
Skills
- Physical abilities to frequently bend, reach, squat, kneel, twist, stand or sit for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., speak, listen, and utilize computer and cell phone (iPhone).

$21.00 to $22.00 per hour.
Schedule
Primarily requires working evening and weekend shifts to accommodate client families' needs outside of school hours and typical weekday work schedules, with some daytime hours based on client and program need.
