About the Role

Under supervision of the Director/Manager of Respiratory Therapy, this role assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the respiratory care staff. The position administers respiratory therapy and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, performs diagnostic testing of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems, and ensures departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The role also participates in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, defining, and developing Respiratory Care’s scope of Practice, including planning, development, and implementation of new services.
  • Assists in implementing efficient services or measures aligned with the hospital’s Mission/Vision.
  • Plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of the staff during the shift.
  • Ensures correct administration of respiratory medications and treatments based on patient age and clinical conditions.
  • Assists in assuring staff competence to perform all aspects of patient care safely, including reading and implementing physician orders, analyzing arterial blood gases, and operating devices and equipment.
  • Keeps staff informed of pertinent clinical issues.
  • Assists in assuring adequate and efficient departmental staffing/scheduling to meet changing patient care needs.
  • Assesses and delegates patient care as it relates to respiratory therapy, ensuring staff follow departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintains effective communication with staff and administration.
  • Schedules cardiopulmonary procedures for inside/outside sources and maintains records/reports.
  • Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper functioning and readiness for patient use.
  • Interacts professionally with patients/families and involves them in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Performs and assists in training and evaluating staff performance on all procedures and tasks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, appropriate prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under stress and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Good and regular attendance.

Qualifications

  • Respiratory Therapy education as required for credentialing by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Current Respiratory Therapy license from the appropriate state licensing body.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential in compliance with the National Board for Respiratory Care Credential Maintenance Program (CMP).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Two years of previous experience in all aspects of respiratory care services preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

Pay

$32.25 to $40.90 hourly.
