Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the respiratory therapy department.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, training, and support to respiratory therapy staff and healthcare team members.
  • Collaborate with nursing, social services, physicians, and other clinical professionals to develop and implement individualized resident care plans.
  • Monitor respiratory care services for quality, compliance, and opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Educate residents, families, and caregivers on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and disease management techniques.
  • Conduct resident assessments, obtain clinical histories, and assist in developing appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Administer and oversee respiratory treatments, including inhaled medications, oxygen therapy, ventilation support, and airway clearance therapies.
  • Ensure respiratory equipment is properly maintained, cleaned, calibrated, and available for resident care.
  • Support staff education related to respiratory care, infection control, emergency response, and evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Participate in care conferences, clinical meetings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with facility policies, safety standards, CDC precautions, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Assist with emergency response situations, including respiratory distress events, code situations, and airway management as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of respiratory assessments, treatments, interventions, and resident progress.

Requirements

  • Prior respiratory care experience required.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Current Respiratory Therapist license/certification as required by the state.
  • Knowledge of Basic Life Support emergency care.
  • Knowledge of CDC Standard Precautions and infection control practices.
  • Strong understanding of respiratory care procedures, protocols, equipment, and patient safety standards.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Skilled nursing or long-term care experience preferred.
