Respiratory Therapy Interventional Bronchoscopy Lead

About the role

The Respiratory Therapy Interventional Bronchoscopy Lead coordinates, operates, and oversees interventional bronchoscopy services across multiple procedural areas, including Endoscopy and the Cardiac Operating Rooms. This role serves as the primary liaison between Endoscopy/OR and Interventional Pulmonology to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates day-to-day bronchoscopy operations in Endoscopy and Cardiac OR environments.
• Safeguards appropriate staffing, equipment availability, and room readiness for scheduled and emergent cases.
• Serves as the primary clinical and operational resource for interventional bronchoscopy procedures.
• Collaborates with OR, Endoscopy, Respiratory, and physician teams to optimize case flow and turnover times.
• Develops and maintains bronchoscopy schedules in coordination with procedural areas and service lines.
• Maintains case volumes, utilization, and workflow metrics; identifies opportunities for improvement.
• Supports budgeting, capital planning, and equipment procurement for bronchoscopy services.
• Aids in onboarding, training, and competency validation for endoscopy staff supporting bronchoscopy services.
• Ensures adherence to infection prevention, reprocessing, and equipment handling standards.
• Supports compliance with Joint Commission, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to bronchoscopy services.
• Provides clinical education and hands-on support for new technologies, procedures, and workflows.
• Assists in developing policies, procedures, and best practices for interventional bronchoscopy.
• Supports research, clinical trials, and program growth initiatives when applicable.
• Participates in on-call, weekend, or after-hours support for urgent cases.
• Correctly follows all Respiratory Care protocols as ordered and reports any pertinent changes in care plans.
• Safely and correctly performs arterial puncture to include Allen’s testing.
• Utilizes the blood gas systems to analyze and report Arterial Blood Gas results as required by accrediting agencies.
• Identifies and properly operates general Respiratory Care equipment, including pneumatic precursors, compressors, bipap units, disinfection machines/supplies, nebulizers, MDI & spacers, incentive spirometers, bedside spirometers, NIF manometers, pulse oximeters, peak flowmeters, manual resuscitators, oscillatory valves, therapy vest, pap, and oxygen devices.

Requirements

• Minimum of an Associates Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Bronchoscopy.
• 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams and/or projects required.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
