Job Description

About the role

The role involves calculating and distributing daily shift assignments for staff and communicating these assignments to nursing floors. It also includes verifying department assignment sheets, addressing staffing shortages, and communicating supply and equipment issues.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient assessments and interpret clinical data for quality patient care.
  • Implement and evaluate the plan of care related to respiratory procedures.
  • Provide care for patients requiring ventilator assistance and complex respiratory devices.
  • Maintain emergency airway equipment for patients with artificial airways.
  • Perform diagnostic studies as per department policy and physician orders.
  • Consult with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals during patient rounds.
  • Complete patient charting documentation in compliance with department and hospital standards.
  • Participate in clinical research protocols and trials involving respiratory patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree.
  • National Board of Respiratory Care RRT credential or CRT credential with at least 5 years' experience in an acute inpatient setting, or CRT credential with at least 8 years' experience as a substitute.
  • Minimum 2 years of post-school experience as a RCP, with one year reflecting experience in critical care.
  • Completion of a nationally accredited degree program in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Strong leadership skills for communication, assertiveness, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and make decisions independently.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Composure and ability to handle difficult situations.

Qualifications

  • Illinois State Licensure for Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • National Board for Respiratory Care Credential RRT or CRT.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certified.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certified.
