About the role
The Department 36402 AMC Mount Pleasant - Respiratory Therapy Services is seeking a part-time, benefits-eligible individual to join our team. This position is available immediately and requires no prior experience.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist, perform routine and basic level respiratory therapy procedures such as oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry.
- Organize and maintain the supply of respiratory therapy equipment and supplies according to department-specific standards.
- Clean and reassemble equipment from various areas of the hospital following proper procedures and adhering to standard precautions.
- Process disposable and non-disposable equipment based on infection prevention guidelines.
- Complete annual hospital competencies.
- Learn and apply new equipment, procedures, and processes as needed to support the job.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling, using proper techniques.
- Ensure compliance with age-specific care requirements and departmental policies.
- Operate all necessary equipment to perform the job.
Requirements
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Respiratory Therapy.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, along with the ability to function independently.
Qualifications
- Wisconsin externs must transition into a graduate respiratory therapist position immediately.
- Illinois externs must not exceed 3 years from enrollment in an approved program.
Skills
- Knowledge of growth and development over the life span.
- Ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific needs.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Will be required to walk, stand, squat, reach above the shoulders, and sit throughout the workday.
- Repetitive use of hands including simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present, and have functional speech, vision, and hearing.
- May be exposed to chemical and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
