About the role

The Allied Health School (AHS) Educator is responsible for the development and implementation of curriculum designed to prepare students for successful careers in various allied health fields. This role involves creating educational programs that account for diverse learning styles, revising curriculum to align with current industry standards, and ensuring course content meets accreditation standards for academic excellence and professional readiness in the dynamic healthcare landscape. The AHS Educator delivers and teaches material while maintaining administrative components of the education system, including grading, reviewing policies, and creating testing standards.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and revises orientation manuals, course materials, lectures, and tests to ensure curriculum incorporates evidence-based practices and meets accreditation, standards, and medical center expectations.
  • Implements and reviews program policies and procedures in partnership with the AHS Program Director.
  • Independently develops and teaches introductory and core courses in their area of specialization.
  • Develops courses for online instruction and multiple technologies while supporting a diverse population of learning needs.
  • Creates learning modules, hands-on activities, assessments, and multimedia content that address various learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.).
  • Continually assesses the effectiveness of instructional methods and adjusts as needed.
  • Advises and teaches students, leads lab skill demonstrations, practice, and testing.
  • Provides guidance and support to students to ensure they meet learning objectives and are prepared for professional certification.
  • Plans and oversees student clinical rotations across CSMC affiliate locations and periodically evaluates the quality, contribution, and appropriateness of all clinical preceptors.
  • Directs and advises students on developing research and advancing knowledge in their field of specialty through in-person teaching and training.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with medical center staff regarding clinical schedules and student experience status.
  • Serves on educational committees and participates in the broader development of the Allied Health School and disciplinary committees.
  • Organizes, administers, reviews, and maintains performance and educational records for all students within the AHS clinical program.
  • In collaboration with the AHS Program Director, may assist with recruiting new students, screening applications, and interviewing potential students for the training program.
  • Performs other education or technical-related duties as assigned by the AHS Program Director or clinical/technical department leadership team.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintains skills in adult and pediatric general ward therapy RT procedures, including setup and monitoring of free-flow O2 therapy systems, bland aerosol systems, medicinal aerosol systems, volume expansion techniques/devices, bronchial hygiene techniques/devices, and CPR.
  • Manages adult ventilator systems, including setup and monitoring of continuous invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts used on adult patient populations, including arterial puncture for blood gas analysis.
  • Identifies and cultivates opportunities for students to participate in research, publication, and white papers for case studies.
  • Maintains skills in newborn and pediatric ventilator systems, including setup and management of continuous invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator systems, specialty gases, and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts, including capillary heel stick venipuncture for infant blood gas analysis.
  • Maintains skills in performance of emergency department RT procedures, including setup and monitoring of adult and pediatric invasive and non-invasive ventilator systems and adjuncts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Education, or related field.
  • 6 years of clinical experience as a licensed and credentialed Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • 2 years of acute care experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or physician (MD or DO) in clinical respiratory care, pulmonary medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, critical care, anesthesiology, healthcare administration, healthcare research, or a related field aligned with the degree conferred.
  • 2 years of experience in training, educating, and mentoring respiratory care students in didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical settings.

Qualifications

Required Licenses Upon Hire:

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) State License: Must hold a current and valid license issued by the State of California and maintain licensure at all times.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT): Must have a current and active RRT credential and keep it valid at all times.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Must possess a current BLS certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Must have a current PALS certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Must hold a current ACLS certification.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Must have a current NRP certification.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctorate in Respiratory Therapy, Education, or related field.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification.
  • Certified by American Medical Technologist as an Allied Health Instructor (AHI).
