About the Role
The Pulmonary Function Technician (PFT) performs comprehensive pulmonary diagnostic testing to evaluate lung function, supporting physician diagnosis and treatment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pulmonary function tests and maneuvers to assess lung mechanics, including spirometry, FVL, FVC, MVV, DLCO, airway resistance, and methacholine challenge
- Assist physicians with diagnostic procedures such as thoracentesis
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of all test data and patient records across multiple labs
- Coordinate patient schedules and provide pre-test instructions
- Communicate patient care plans clearly to team members
- Support quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with pulmonary testing standards and protocols
Requirements
- Knowledge of pulmonary testing, including spirometry, FVL, FVC, MVV, DLCO, airway resistance, and methacholine challenge
- Strong attention to detail and technical proficiency
- Ability to recognize abnormal findings and communicate effectively
- Certification in BLS; ACLS preferred or required within 3 months of hire
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent
- Certification or registration as a Pulmonary Function Technician preferred
