Respiratory Therapist Lead (RRT)
Job Summary
Provides respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians. Performs all types of Respiratory Care including diagnostic testing, treadmills, complete PFTs, ABG machine maintenance, and Hemodynamics. Performs all types of general floor therapies and procedures required in the specialty areas, i.e. ICU, PACU, etc. Performs assessment and treatment of the newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient. Ability to precept and train staff, students, and orientees.
Responsibilities
- Plan and organize workload.
- Makes sure work assignments, rescheduling, cancellations, and workflow coordination with staff members are handled appropriately.
- Performs diagnostic tests such as simple spirometry, pulmonary function, and pulse oximetry.
- Carries out treatment needs by patient that is age appropriate.
- Administers all modes of routine respiratory care services, i.e. SVN, IPPB therapy, all O2 therapies.
- Completes/document patient care assessment and response to therapy.
- Performs PFT testing, EKGs, EEGs and stress testing and reports results in an accurate and timely manner.
- Aid in the discharge planning process, i.e., set up home care and participate in discharge planning meeting with the patient care team.
- Participate in the decision making process of the department, staff meeting attendance, committee participation, etc.
- Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Special Skills: Must have understanding of the general principles of asepsis and infection control practices, including isolation. Knowledge of volume ventilators and understanding of patient hemodynamics. Excellent customer service skills. Computer skills preferred. Ability to precept and train staff, students, and orientees. Able to actively take a leadership role to meet the needs of the department.
- Education: Completion of formal two year respiratory education program which meets requirements for certification (CRT) OR registration (RRT).
- Licenses/Certifications: Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist in the State of Arizona and CPR. As required by facility: ACLS, PALS and NRP required within 12 months of employment.
- Preferred Requirements: Experience: Acute care and ICU experience preferred.
