Assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Measures lung capacity to determine impaired function. Administers physician-prescribed treatments for patients with breathing abnormalities. Assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians.
Responsibilities
- Assist in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with pulmonary disorders
- Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine gas levels
- Measure lung capacity to assess impaired function
- Administer treatments prescribed by physicians for breathing abnormalities
- Oversee respiratory care treatments and supervise respiratory therapy technicians
Requirements
- AAS in Respiratory Care from an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Licensed by the Board of Medical Examiners of South Carolina
- 10-12 years of professional experience may substitute for registration
- 0-2 years of work experience
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
Pay
Hourly pay grade Health-26.
Schedule
40 scheduled weekly hours.
