About the Role

Provides respiratory care to patients as ordered by physicians, following established standards and practices. This role operates within the VCH Respiratory Therapy department and contributes to the delivery of high-quality clinical care aligned with the hospital’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities

• Exemplifies knowledge of the cardiopulmonary system to deliver clinical care in accordance with hospital standards and practices.
• Works under limited supervision, following written and oral communication.
• Demonstrates understanding of biopsychosocial and spiritual aspects of human behavior across all age groups, from newborns to geriatrics.
• Exhibits effective communication skills, empathy, and unconditional positive regard toward patients and coworkers.
• Establishes measurable yearly goals and objectives.
• Promotes positive customer relations.
• Ensures compliance with organizational requirements, including policies, procedures, and regulations specific to the Respiratory Care Department.
• Maintains availability for contact (e.g., beeper, telephone, emergency contact).
• Demonstrates flexibility in schedule to meet the needs of patients, the community, and staff.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
• Performs age-specific therapy, including individual and family education, routine and emergency procedures, medication administration, and isolation procedures.
• Performs patient handling procedures safely to ensure both patient and employee safety.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program (Respiratory Therapy).
• Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Certification as a Licensed Certified Respiratory Therapist (LIC-Certified Respiratory Therapist).
• Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in Tennessee (LIC-Registered Respiratory Therapist - Tennessee).
