Respiratory Care Assistant

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs basic respiratory therapy procedures under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.
• Performs diagnostic procedures including, but not limited to oximetry, capnography, arterial puncture, and pulmonary function testing.
• May participate in monitoring of CPAP, BiPAP, and mechanical ventilators.
• Consults with and assists physicians and nurses with respiratory care plans for patients.
• Assesses patients and evaluates appropriateness and quality of respiratory care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with current participation in respiratory classes and clinical rotations.
• Knowledge of basic respiratory therapy procedures and documented competency validation.
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Adaptable to performing under stress in emergency situations.
• Ability to exercise professional judgment in patient interactions.
• Ability to use a computer for documentation and other relevant activities.
