About the Role

This Registered Respiratory Therapist performs routine and specialized respiratory therapy procedures on patients as prescribed by the physician and directed by department protocol. The role involves providing care to adult and geriatric patients, utilizing knowledge of principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient's age and condition to meet their unique physical and psychosocial needs. The therapist ensures the involvement of appropriate individuals (e.g., patient's family or guardian, outside agencies) in the continuing care of the patient as needed. All services are delivered in accordance with the mission and SPIRIT values of Northwest Hospital.

The Respiratory Therapist participates as a member of the patient care team following completion of the formalized orientation program and functions under the supervision of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation manager. The role requires the ability to observe and obtain information, understand the range of treatment needed by patients, and report significant findings to the manager.

The therapist performs high-level pulmonary diagnostic testing, including spirometry, lung volumes, flow volume loops, single breath diffusion capacity, and arterial punctures to assist medical providers in diagnosing and guiding therapy for patients with pulmonary disorders.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized respiratory therapy procedures as prescribed by physicians and directed by department protocols.
• Provide care to adult and geriatric patients, ensuring their unique physical and psychosocial needs are met.
• Involve appropriate individuals (e.g., patient's family, guardians, or outside agencies) in the continuing care of the patient.
• Deliver services in alignment with the mission and SPIRIT values of Northwest Hospital.
• Participate as a member of the patient care team following orientation.
• Perform high-level pulmonary diagnostic testing, such as spirometry, lung volumes, flow volume loops, single breath diffusion capacity, and arterial punctures.
• Report significant findings to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation manager.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of related experience.
• Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Current Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner License or eligibility to obtain one.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification.

Preferred: Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist.
