About the role
The Engagement Center is a welcoming place for adults to get services and advocacy. It houses a health clinic, a behavioral health residential program, and serves as a hub for community providers.
Responsibilities
- Engage clients who come into the Center, sitting down with them to listen and hear what they want and need, and developing a short-term game plan for their next steps.
- Support clients in taking steps towards their goals, such as connecting them with resources like housing assistance and healthcare.
- Work with clients who are living in emergency shelters, connecting them with their case managers.
- Engage clients who are outside the building or encountered by street outreach staff, helping them feel comfortable coming into the Center.
- Informally coach clients on using computers and resources to search for housing, set up accounts, and apply for benefits.
- Collaborate with other Resource Coordinators to ensure smooth operations and support clients effectively.
- Identify and address issues within the Engagement Center and other programs to improve the center's effectiveness.
Requirements
- At least two years’ experience in successfully providing services to people facing housing crises.
- Knowledge of resources available to people experiencing crises, including homelessness.
- Ability to apply resourcefulness and energy to support clients.
- Proficiency in documentation and adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Excellent working knowledge of human services and public benefit programs in Allegheny County.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time under pressure.
- Comfortable finding answers to difficult/complex questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services-related field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Act 33, 34 and FBI clearances.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
Skills
- Understanding of psychiatric rehabilitation principles, addiction recovery practices, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience in Motivational Interviewing and trauma-informed care.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other professionals.
- Proficiency in documentation skills and adherence to confidentiality standards.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Approachable, flexible, organized, and ready to solve problems.
- Comfortable finding answers to difficult/complex questions.
