About the role

Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has since expanded to operate across multiple states including the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson's continuum of care includes prevention, mental health services, and foster care, all of which are trauma-informed and evidence-based.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care, supervision, structure, and build a therapeutic relationship with youth in your care.
  • Work with clients ranging from 10-17 years old, focusing on those who are highly acute and potentially aggressive.
  • Support the treatment process of each youth and complete other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Work on an as-needed basis, with a minimum of 4 12-hour shifts per month, including:
    • 1st Shift: 7am-7pm
    • Week 1: Monday, Thursday, Friday
    • Week 2: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A BA/BS in the Human Services field is preferred, but a high school diploma/GED and two years of relevant experience working with youth may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening test and an extensive background check.
  • Mandatory attendance at a 4-day Therapeutic Crises Intervention training program is required before engaging with clients.
  • All residential staff must pass a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training and demonstrate proper physical techniques and holds.

Benefits

Starting Pay Range: $17.50-$19.50 hourly based on experience.

  • Walk, sit, use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Perform a wide variety of physical tasks such as standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, and lifting of individuals.
  • Agility to control and rapidly extricate oneself and children/youths from buildings in case of an emergency.
  • Capable of running a distance as required in the apprehension of a fleeing youth.
