Residential Supervisor

About the role

This supervisory position will be stationed at and primarily serve the Work Release Center (WRC) of 7th Judicial District Iowa Department of Corrections. This community based correctional center provides an important intermediate step for criminal justice involved persons who desire to re-enter the community after a period of incarceration. This position is one of two that serve the WRC.

Responsibilities

• Supervise second shift Residential Officers
• Oversee onboarding of newly hired Residential Officers throughout the district
• Work closely with the other supervisor at the WRC to ensure seamless operations throughout the unit
• Recruit, hire, and retain direct reports to build and maintain an effective work unit
• Provide routine check-ins, coaching, performance evaluations, timesheet submission, timely communication of HR matters, quality assurance, and staff discipline
• Coordinate onboarding activities for all new Residential Officers throughout the residential division
• Review and approve written reports, provide timely and effective feedback to staff, and make quality decisions in a timely manner
• Adhere to and enforce Prison Rape Elimination Act standards, work in tandem with another supervisor to investigate administrative matters as assigned, and take disciplinary action when necessary
• Support statewide residential leadership initiatives

Requirements

The successful candidate will have clear responsibilities in terms of who their direct reports are, and will need to communicate and collaborate effectively with other supervisors to ensure staff are effectively supported. Providing backup coverage in the event another supervisor is unavailable may be necessary as part of high-quality teamwork. This position will co-lead the WRC to maintain a positive and productive culture for clients, the community, and employees. They will serve as a member of the district's Leadership Team and support statewide residential leadership initiatives.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field, and experience equal to four years of full-time work in human services, criminal justice, or corrections
• Total of eight years of education and/or full-time experience (as described above), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Probation/Parole Officer
