About the Role

We are looking for a Residential Peer Support Specialist to join our team at our Bell Cove RTH program in Brookings, Oregon. The specialist will meet each new resident at admission to support them in feeling welcome, answer their questions, provide compassionate support, and guide them in articulating self-determined goals for their stay at the residential treatment facility.

This position will engage in one-to-one conversations with residents to build trust, utilize strategic self-disclosure to build connection and normalize mental health challenges, and support individuals in connecting with community peer support systems. The specialist will facilitate and coordinate peer groups where residents can discuss their unique recovery stories and challenges.

Crisis de-escalation training is provided, which requires performing various physical, hands-on maneuvers and techniques. This position falls under the AFSCME bargaining unit, with wages, benefits, and working conditions set in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Meet new residents at admission to provide support and answer questions
  • Engage in one-to-one conversations to build trust and connection
  • Facilitate and coordinate peer support groups for residents
  • Support residents in articulating self-determined recovery goals
  • Assist residents in connecting with community peer support systems
  • Perform crisis de-escalation techniques as trained

Requirements

  • Personal experience with mental health challenges
  • Certified and Registered as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS) through the Oregon Health Authority (OHA)
  • Valid driver’s license from state of residence (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire)
  • Ability to pass a DHS criminal background check
  • Must be 18 or older at the time of hire (per OAR 309-035-0135)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently talk, listen, use hands and fingers, reach, stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and climb stairs
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds
  • Occasionally use ladders, squat/kneel, and perform other physical tasks as applicable
  • Successfully complete crisis de-escalation and CPR trainings, including hands-on maneuvers and techniques
  • Ability to lift and transfer clients as needed

About the Program

Bell Cove is a co-ed, 5-bed Residential Treatment Home serving adults living with a mental illness. Each resident enjoys a private, ADA-accessible bedroom with a half-bath. The program features an open living design with common areas, including a private library/activity room, beautiful patio, and backyard.

Pay

$23.69 - $25.14 per hour, based on experience and credentials.

Additional pay differentials (subject to position, program, and eligibility):

  • Night Shift (NOC) Differential: $3.00 per hour for hours worked between 10:00 PM and 8:30 AM (minimum 2.5 hours within this period)
  • Secure Program Differential: $2.00 per hour for all hours worked in an eligible CCS secure program
  • Bilingual Differential: 5% pay differential for employees who meet the qualifications of the CCS Language/Bilingual Program

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM (Part Time, Day Shift)
