About the Role

The Residential Life Coordinator (RLC) is a full-time, live-in member of the University Housing team. Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Residential Learning, the RLC assists in developing and implementing a comprehensive campus living and learning community plan, and coordinates all administrative aspects of a residence hall or apartment community. This position performs moderately complex student services professional work, applying judgment in the principles, techniques, and standards of student service programs.

The incumbent is required to live in a department-provided apartment and adapt to an on-campus lifestyle, working a 40-hour week with varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours. The RLC participates in an after-hours on-call rotation, serves as essential campus emergency response personnel, and must competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.

The living space is furnished and intended for the employee and their immediate family only. Unauthorized use of the apartment is prohibited without advanced written approval. Upon separation from employment, the individual has fourteen (14) calendar days to vacate the apartment unless an extension is approved in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Educate students on their rights and responsibilities as residence hall/apartment and university community members.
  • Train and lead Resident Assistants on effective boundary-setting techniques.
  • Serve as a disciplinary meeting officer for low-level community standards violations.
  • Counsel and refer students individually on academic, social, and personal concerns.
  • Participate as a member of a 24-hour on-call response team, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to address student or facility crises.
  • Cultivate mutually supportive relationships on and off campus.
  • Foster the development of a safe and healthy community.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in student services or a related field. A master’s degree in a job-related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Skills

  • Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, and external agencies.
  • Make sound decisions in emergencies and carry through actions with implications for other programs or service areas.
  • General knowledge of personal, social, and academic challenges faced by traditional and non-traditional college students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Experience counseling and referring diverse college student populations.
  • Experience supervising a diverse college-aged student staff or group/club.
  • Knowledge of or experience working within living-learning community-based housing.
  • Previous work experience in residential life, fraternity/sorority life, student activities, or related student affairs areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks and develop successful programming for a residential community.
  • Graduate internship/assistantship experience within residential life or housing may apply toward professional experience.

Pay

The classification salary range is $5,083 - $7,228 per month. The anticipated salary for this position is $5,083 per month, with the final salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.
