About the Role

The Residential HVAC Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and timely cost estimates for residential HVAC projects by reviewing project plans, specifications, system designs, and installation requirements. This role works closely with HVAC Designers, Division Managers, customers, vendors, and field personnel to prepare material and labor estimates that support accurate project planning and successful HVAC installations.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze residential construction plans, specifications, HVAC designs, and related project documents to determine project scope and estimating requirements.
  • Perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs for residential HVAC systems, including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductwork, thermostats, and related components.
  • Apply practical knowledge of residential HVAC systems and installation methods to ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements and jobsite conditions.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive project estimates and proposals, including costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work as applicable.
  • Track and maintain current material costs, pricing information, estimating templates, and related data within company estimating systems.
  • Review project documentation to identify potential risks, assumptions, discrepancies, and installation concerns that may impact project cost or execution.
  • Coordinate with HVAC Designers, Division Managers, customers, vendors, and other internal departments to clarify project requirements and support accurate estimating.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, technical manuals, specifications, diagrams, and HVAC system layouts.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of estimates, project correspondence, pricing information, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure estimates and related work comply with applicable HVAC codes, local regulations, company policies, and quality standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in residential construction required.
  • Prior hands-on residential HVAC experience as an installer, service technician, field supervisor, or similar HVAC position strongly preferred.
  • Previous HVAC estimating experience preferred but not required for candidates with applicable field experience and technical knowledge.
  • Relevant HVAC industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks.
  • English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties.
  • Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet project and operational needs.
  • Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or work authorization support. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without current or future need for employer sponsorship.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Practical knowledge of residential HVAC systems, equipment, components, and installation processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical manuals, project specifications, diagrams, and HVAC system designs.
  • Ability to calculate material quantities, area, volume, percentages, and other measurements using basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to conceptualize project requirements and develop estimates from limited or preliminary project information.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to prepare professional correspondence and clearly communicate estimating information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple estimates, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Familiarity with HVAC design and estimating software such as Wrightsoft, AutoCAD, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Experience with digital estimating software, including Accubid Anywhere or similar systems, is a plus but not required.
  • General computer proficiency with the ability to learn and adapt to new estimating and technical software systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable residential HVAC codes, regulations, and local compliance requirements.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills when working with managers, customers, vendors, and other business partners.
  • Maintain professionalism and a positive, respectful demeanor with customers, coworkers, and business partners.

Physical Requirements

  • Perform hand movements, including typing and operating computers, estimating software, and other office equipment for extended periods.
  • Travel as required to support project and operational needs, including occasional visits to residential construction job sites for project review or coordination.
  • Work primarily in an office environment, sitting at a desk and performing prolonged computer work, with occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
  • When visiting active construction sites, work around typical jobsite conditions, including varying weather, construction noise, dust, equipment, and uneven surfaces.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 25 pounds.
