Tampa Electric Company’s Energy Management (EM) Analyst team supports all mandated Conservation programs and communicates the safe and efficient use of energy to customers. The team supports marketing and sales of Residential and Commercial Zap Cap and Renewable Energy Programs, and delivery of Commercial Conservation programs. Responsible for ensuring programs are delivered in accordance with the Florida Administrative Code and meet customer and company expectations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to safely carry and maneuver a thirty-five (35) pound ladder.
  • Climb throughout attics to perform audits and inspections in adverse conditions such as superheated attics and outdoors in sun and rain.
  • Pass a pulmonary fitness test and respirator fit test, and wear personal protective equipment.

Licenses

  • Valid Florida Driver’s license with a clean driving record; driving record will be validated initially and may be checked annually.
  • Must abide by the Company’s Automotive Policy—TECO-CRR-POL-05-5.
  • Will be provided a Company vehicle for business use only; work assignments cover Tampa Electric’s entire service territory.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete in-house conservation training within six (6) months of start date, including refresher training every 3 years. Training covers energy analysis, residential building structure, HVAC systems, insulation, duct materials, renewable energy, conservation practices, residential audits, regulatory requirements, basic electricity, metering, and customer service programs.
  • Conduct Free Energy Audits (walk-through) for Residential Customers, including:
    • Analysis of current energy usage patterns and habits.
    • Education on rates, metering, and evaluation of home structure and major appliances.
    • Inspection of HVAC systems, ductwork, and attic insulation.
    • Calculations to determine energy costs and recommendations for conservation programs.
  • Conduct attic inspections to qualify customer homes for the Insulation Incentive and DuctWorks Programs, including evaluation of existing insulation, duct systems, and explanation of program requirements and benefits.
  • Administer TEC’s neighborhood low-income weatherization program, including educating customers and installing energy efficiency measures.
  • Inspect post-install insulation upgrades, ductwork repairs, and other verifications to ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Resolve Residential High Bill inquiries via phone and field visits using audit techniques and appliance load calculations.
  • Market Residential Energy Planner, Zap Cap, Renewable Energy programs, and other company initiatives.
  • Provide Emergency Management or Company support during emergencies as determined by management.
  • Assist in projects and additional assignments as directed, including presentations to various groups.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Valid High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.

Licenses/Certifications/Training:

  • Required: Must pass the Residential Energy Auditor (REA), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Business Energy Professional (BEP), or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) exam through the Association of Energy Engineers within 18 months of start date.
  • Preferred: Any Association of Energy Engineers certification, such as REA, CEA, CEM, or BEP.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in energy management or the electric utility industry. College degree may substitute for equivalent experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in electric high bill resolution and meter operation.
  • Above-average mathematical and analytical skills for conservation program calculations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, judgment, and decision-making for delivering audit findings.
  • Proficient planning and organizational skills to manage autonomous work schedules.
  • Ability to work independently and in a self-directed team.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret customer account data.
  • Basic competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of TECO Customer Service programs, Zap Cap Program, energy conservation techniques, and use of laptops, tablets, and wireless technologies.
  • Effectiveness in conducting presentations.

Working Conditions

  • Driving 25% of the day; 75% spent working with customers in their homes, outdoors, in attics, walking, bending, and climbing.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver a 35 lb. ladder.

Storm duty is a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in emergency response/recovery activities to maintain service to customers.
