Residential Energy Efficiency Inspector Position (Central NJ)

About the Role
The Residential Energy Efficiency Inspector is a hands-on, field-based role conducting onsite inspections and tests to assess the energy efficiency of new homes. Inspections include quantitative data collection (e.g., measuring HVAC duct leakage and whole-house envelope leakage) and qualitative data collection (e.g., identifying construction materials and photographing the home).
After a 2-month training and certification period (or less if already credentialed as a HERS Rater), you will be assigned daily inspections. You will travel to construction sites, perform tests, record results, and communicate findings and recommendations to construction managers. The role involves learning construction techniques, building science, energy efficiency terminology, and client communication.
ReVireo provides all inspection equipment; you will use your personal vehicle for transportation (compensated at the IRS standard mileage rate).
Responsibilities
- Conduct onsite energy efficiency inspections and tests for new homes
- Measure HVAC duct leakage and whole-house envelope leakage
- Identify construction materials and document findings with photos
- Record and communicate inspection results, issues, and recommendations to construction managers
- Operate and maintain inspection equipment
- Prepare units for inspection and diagnose test-related issues
- Travel daily to assigned construction sites (primarily in Central New Jersey)
Requirements
- Located in Central New Jersey, able to work and travel throughout the state (primarily Middlesex, Monmouth, and Mercer counties)
- Own vehicle, valid driver’s license, and car insurance
- Willing to use personal vehicle for daily work travel (compensated at IRS standard mileage rate)
- Comfortable driving long distances (occasional sites may be 2+ hours away)
- Willing to transport ReVireo’s inspection equipment
- Proficient with tablets, Microsoft Office, cell phones, and basic data entry
- Able to lift and carry at least 40 pounds
- Comfortable working on ladders and standing/walking for extended periods
- Works well independently and manages time efficiently
- Enjoys meeting new people and developing client relationships onsite
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent preferred
- RESNET Rating Field Inspector (RFI) or HERS Rater certification preferred (training provided if not already certified)
- Building Performance Institute (BPI) training preferred if no RESNET certification
- Experience in residential construction, HVAC systems, or reading architectural/mechanical plans is a plus
This position requires HERS certification. If not already certified, ReVireo will provide training and resources at no cost. Certification involves completing RESNET’s examination and competency requirements. Training period is approximately 2-3 months.
Pay
Starting salary of at least $60,000 per year, commensurate with experience, credentials, and qualifications. Annual performance-based re-evaluation. Company profit-sharing of 10% net profit to employees, allocated based on performance.
