About the role
Vinfen is a nonprofit organization that provides community-based services to individuals with various needs. As a Residential Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and document treatment plans, including ISP/IPs and clinical programs.
- Provide training and support to persons served, including rehabilitative interventions, behavioral interventions, and monitoring.
- Assist individuals in becoming fully integrated into their communities, including community-based support and resource services.
- Plan recreational and social activities to promote emotional well-being and improve quality of life, such as holiday and birthday parties, celebrations, outings, and shopping trips.
- Provide transportation, as necessary, ensuring residents can participate in outings and activities.
- Assess residents' physical and emotional status, report changes to supervisor, and monitor residents' funds as needed.
- Maintain records for persons served, collect behavior and academic data, and maintain progress notes.
- Enter information into electronic health record, document all information related to incidents, programs, and routine activities in a communication log, and store, administer, document, and dispose of medication for persons served.
- Communicate with and provide information to interested parties such as program nurse, funding agency, case managers, other service providers, Visiting Nurses Association nurses, and physicians.
- Participate in all mandated training and staff meetings as directed by manager, assist with the orientation of new staff, ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory bodies, and ensure program site safety and maintenance.
- Perform last-minute coverage as required, functions as a human rights advocate, provides physical intervention and/or first aid in emergencies, serves as a reporter to the Disabled Persons Protections Commission, and complies with all corporate and divisional policies and procedures.
- Complete various paperwork and logs, including communication logs, community membership logs, chore schedules, timesheets, and application forms, and ensures required staff-to-consumer ratios are maintained.
- Comply with all corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including safe work practices, workers' compensation, universal precautions, and exposure control.
- Follow all Vinfen administrative policies and perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- At least one year of experience and/or training in a related function is preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Driving is a requirement for this position using either a Vinfen van or personal vehicle. A valid driver's license must be presented at the time of employment.
- Must be at least 21 years old, have maintained a valid US driver's license for at least six months, and be able to pass a driver's screening background check.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques or the use of a two-person lift, sit, reach, climb stairs, maneuver through narrow spaces or hallways, assist clients with tasks of daily living, speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives.
- CPR, First Aid, and MAC certifications are required within two weeks of hire.
