Residential Counselor
About the role
The Residential Counselor role at Lund involves providing essential parenting and life skills support in a therapeutic living community. This role guides residents in daily routines, helping them develop life skills, socialization techniques, and personal responsibility while maintaining a structured and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Guide residents in daily routines and develop life skills
- Implement individualized treatment plans and offer mentorship
- Monitor resident progress and provide crisis intervention
- Create a safe, nurturing space for residents to thrive
- Set clear and consistent boundaries, supervise daily schedules, and assist with household responsibilities
- Support personal hygiene and self-care routines
- Collaborate with the treatment team to report on progress and challenges
- Teach and supervise meal preparation
- Explain daily routine, schedules, and activities to new residents
- Transport residents when necessary
- Provide on-site respite care to infants and young children in the program as necessary
- Administer medications, breathalyzers, and urinalysis once trained to do so
- Complete daily and monthly documentation as required
- Report to Shift Supervisor and Associate Director when incidents/discussions appear harmful, dangerous, or inappropriate and need further exploration and action
- Auxiliary tasks may include assisting with floor coverage and planning as needed to ensure adequate staffing levels
Requirements
The successful completion of a background and driving checks is a condition of employment.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in human services related field and one year experience in mental health
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities, deadlines, and demands; ability to work well under pressure; availability to respond to occasional off hours crisis; some state-wide travel to attend meetings; irregular hours at times to meet the needs of a 24-hour facility
- Ability to assist with childcare including lifting infants and toddlers; ability to assist in social skill training including cooking and cleaning
- Relevant experience may be substituted for a degree
- Ability to maintain a valid VT Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation is required; occasional statewide travel may be required
