Residential Counselors provide daily care and supervision for residents in a trauma-informed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in trauma-informed programming to ensure physical and emotional safety for residents.
  • Supervise residents during activities to promote positive social behavior and affect changes in behavior.
  • Teach rules, manners, and interpersonal-relationship practices; model and instruct life skills.
  • Complete shift documentation: residential case notes, incident reports, resident inventory, sleep logs, and behavior checklists.
  • Observe and participate in clinical treatment, including limit-setting, treatment-plan implementation, and co-facilitation of clinical groups.
  • Escort residents to groups, interviews, meals, recreation, education, medical appointments, and other activities.
  • Maintain age-appropriate rules and expectations for conduct during work, recreation, and education.
  • Administer and record medication as ordered by a physician or delegating nurse.
  • Supervise resident participation in canine and equine programs, including direct animal care when necessary.
  • Prevent and intervene in inappropriate behaviors and crises.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
  • Communicate relevant information internally and externally to support resident treatment.
  • Work flexible shifts across multiple days of the week.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Review client files periodically to understand individualized resident needs and goals.
  • Perform duties in compliance with contract, state, federal, and company regulations.
  • May be required to drive company vehicles, meet auto-insurance requirements, and complete vehicle training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience working with children and families, preferably in child welfare.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must obtain RCYCP licensure within 180 days of employment.
