Residential Counselor

About the Role

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Edison, NJ. The Residential Counselor provides direct support to residents in a structured residential setting, helping them develop daily living skills, follow care plans, and access needed resources.

Responsibilities

• Monitor resident safety and well-being.
• Facilitate group and individual activities.
• Document services and progress.
• Support case management and treatment goals.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff.
• Respond to crises using approved de-escalation techniques.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and respectful living environment.
• Communicate clearly with residents, colleagues, and external providers.
• Adhere to program policies and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or related field preferred.
• Experience in residential programs, community-based services, or social services environments is beneficial.
• Willingness to work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Willingness to complete all required trainings and certifications.

Skills

• Background in Human Services and Case Management to support residents with housing, benefits, and service coordination.
• Strong Interpersonal Skills to build trust, communicate clearly, and work effectively with diverse populations and multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of Psychology and Mental Health to understand behavioral health needs, support treatment goals, and respond appropriately to crises.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation, follow program protocols, and manage time and priorities in a residential setting.
