About the Role
As the Residential Cook Shift 3, you are responsible for food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning tasks to ensure the kitchen remains safe, sanitary, and efficient in creating and delivering dishes to clients. In this role, you will serve a minimum of 125 client meals per day in a fun and fast-paced environment with a dynamic team.
Schedule
Full Time, Wednesday - Sunday, 10 am - 7 pm. Work Model: 100% onsite. Local Travel: 10%.
Responsibilities
- Monitor food inventories and document according to donor guidelines (Houston Food Bank, etc.).
- Prepare three meals per day for clients residing at the Flagship Campus at posted meal times with adherence to approved menus.
- Accommodate clients with food restrictions/special diets (cultural or medical).
- Prepare sack lunches in advance for clients not located at the Flagship Campus during posted meal times.
- Follow sanitation and safety protocols (food storage, labeling, rotation, preparation, and serving) as per enterprise, city, state, and federal standards.
- Serve food in accordance with enterprise, CACFP, city, state, and federal standards.
- Ensure compliance with Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines for meal preparation and portion control.
- Maintain accurate documentation required by CACFP, HAWC, the Houston Food Bank, and the End Hunger Network.
- Clean equipment and surfaces in the kitchen during and after meal preparation.
- Log refrigerator/freezer temperatures daily.
- Maintain proper uniform and personal hygiene standards.
- Ensure freshness and quality of prepared items.
- Refrigerate or store items not served immediately.
- Substitute donated products when appropriate.
- Clean dishes in accordance with City of Houston guidelines.
- Examine donated and purchased food in the receiving area before storing.
- Reject damaged/infested food items.
- Adjust inventories to reflect receipt and use of food.
- Attend necessary training and in-services.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of food service experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Teams).
- Valid Food Management Certificate.
- Valid Culinary Certificate (preferred).
- Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record and reliable transportation.
Skills
- Knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen safety standards.
- Ability to prepare meals consistently while maintaining quality and presentation.
- Understanding of sanitation, food handling, and health department regulations.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with effective collaboration skills.
- Ability to lift, stand, bend, and work for extended periods in a kitchen environment.
- Positive attitude and willingness to support overall kitchen operations.
