Residential Aide (Counselor Assistant)

About the role

VIP Community Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals with histories of chemical dependency achieve self-sufficiency. The position is available as a per diem role.

Responsibilities

• Work with clients around ADL skills such as laundry, cleaning, and organization of room
• Medicinal monitoring
• Monitor clients to ensure dormitory property compliance as per DHS rules and regulations
• Regularly monitors the bathrooms to reduce the instance of clients smoking in these areas
• Strips beds when a room/bed is vacated
• Maintains the garden area
• Mandatory Callahan Attendance
• Holds new clients to the 2-bag property limitation
• Retrieves and delivers client property as indicated or required, in accordance with procedure
• Distributes and collects linen for laundry service in accordance with procedure
• Responsible for food warming and serving breakfast, lunch/dinner
• Responsible for cleaning of serving utensils and pots
• Conducts bed checks according to procedure
• Turns off lights in all dormitories
• Completes incident reports, hourly rounds as needed, room checks as needed, updates logbook to foster greater and meaningful communication across shifts as needed
• Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team
• Meets with supervisor on regular basis
• Interacts with clients to promote a friendly supportive but professional atmosphere
• All other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or other supervisory staff
• Attends mandatory in-service annually
• Participates in various committees and meetings as requested

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency with two years experience in counseling and/or a shelter system
• HHA/CNA or other Medical training preferred
• Fire Safety Coordinator Certificate
• Food Handler's Certificate
• CPR/First Aide
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to speak/write the English language
• Bilingual Spanish Preferred
